Abstract

This article describes the recent research on the therapeutic potentials of Moringa oleifera, which is a rich source of phytochemicals. Since time immemorial, plants have been used for healing purposes.  They are also the sources of numerous drugs. The reason for this is that all the plants possess a unique combination of phytochemicals in them. Moringa oleifera is a popular plant, which is extremely rich in nutrients and vital phytochemicals. This article provides information regarding its phytochemical content and the properties of those constituents. It also highlights the nutrient content and pharmacological activities of various classes of constituents present. The leaves have the most profound therapeutic effect. They have been shown to have, basically, hepatoprotective effect, antioxidant effect, neuroprotective and anti-tumour effect, and lowering of blood pressure. The roots have anti-inflammatory effect. The leaves and flowers also reflected anti-diabetic effect while the seeds have been shown to be effective against several cancer lines.
